Champion Bus is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Thor Industries. Champion was founded in 1953 and in 1972 built the facilities that currently house the operation that began producing Cutaway buses in 1981. Champion Bus is located on 73 acres in Imlay City, Michigan. With over 194,000 square feet of manufacturing space and over 250 dedicated employees, they are able to produce over 1,200 mid-size buses per year.
Since 1999, Champion has been ISO certified and is currently registered as ISO 9001:2000. Champion was also the first bus company to be QVM certified by Ford Motor Company. The majority of the Champion Bus products have been tested at the Federal Transit Authority's, Altoona Pennsylvania, testing facility and all products are in compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
The body has a steel cage construction. When the sidewalls, floor, and roof are welded together, they form a strong, durable structure.

DEFENDER
When it comes to tough, durable buses, Champion wrote the script - and the Defender is the lead. Defender is the medium-duty bus with heavy-duty performance to provide reliable service under the toughest working conditions. Defender offers the widest chassis selection of any bus in its class - International or General Motors.
